X-naut Unveils MagPower Bluetooth Keyboard

Murrieta Fire & Rescue·Fire / EMS·5 min read

X-naut unveiled the MagPower Bluetooth Keyboard, a small keyboard made especially for iPad and iOS that connects instantly via Bluetooth and docks beneath the tablet in an X-naut mount, transforming any X30/X90 setup mounted in a car or on a wall into a complete cab-mounted workstation.

Touchscreen-only mounts are useful for rapid lookups, however agencies using iPads in place of in-cab mobile data terminals have informed X-naut that actual keys speed up dispatch notes, ePCR fields and license or plate lookups. Up until recently, adding a keyboard to a tablet that was mounted meant that it had to compete with other accessories for dash space. The MagPower Bluetooth Keyboard was created specifically for iOS rather than as a general-purpose Bluetooth device, and it is intended to dock straight into the current mount rather than around it.

The keyboard uses the same MagPower magnetic connection technique that is already included in X-naut's X90 range to pair over Bluetooth and dock into the receiver beneath the tablet. Red illuminated keys allow crews to type by feel without interfering with nite vision, making the board readable in a darkened cab or during overnight calls.

The keyboard transforms a cab-mounted iPad into a typing-ready MDT replacement in X-naut's driver-mount configuration, which includes an X90 Ruggedized case, dash/windshield AMPS arm and MagPower Receiver with 12V Vehicle Kit. When a crew member wants the tablet alone, it lifts free in a matter of seconds.
