Gulfstream's G600 Makes Aviation History

Gulfstream business jets are synonymous with VIP travel (think ‘A’ list celebs and heads of state) and long-haul flights, easily flying 4,000 – 7,000 miles non-stop. They routinely cross continents and span the oceans to reach far-flung destinations around the globe.

Just last week, Gulfstream Aerospace Corporation (GAC) announced that a Gulfstream business jet had achieved yet another first; a Gulfstream 600, aka the G600, had successfully completed the world’s first trans-Atlantic flight using 100% sustainable aviation fuel, or SAF, instead of the traditional Jet-A. This flight actually took place on Sunday, November 19, 2023. A G600 jet took off from Savannah, Georgia, KSAV, and flew almost 7 hours northeast across the Atlantic, arriving 6 hours, 56 minutes later, at London’s Farnborough Airport (EGLF). Quite an accomplishment!

This G600 is powered by the newer technology Pratt & Whitney PW815GA engines and produce about 16,000 # of thrust each. Both used 100% SAF for this flight, which features lower carbon, sulfur and aromatics. The G600 has a range of 6,600 NM, or about 7,500 SM, which is equivalent to flying from New York to Dubai. GAC has already set over 35 world-speed records.

SAF is a direct replacement for ‘fossil jet fuel’. And reduces greenhouse gas (GHG) by up to 80% compared to fossil jet fuel.

Fly safely!
